| FAQ - Streaming
When I listen to Internet Audio Streams, the playback is choppy. What can I do to improve the playback quality of streams? If you are using a modem to connect to the Internet, make sure that you are not trying to play streams that are too fast for your connection. A good rule of thumb when using a modem is to never play a stream that is faster than 48 kbps (most sites will tell you the speed of a stream next to the link). If you are sure that your connection to the Internet is 56 kbps (56,000 bps), you will also be able to play streams at 56 kbps. However, remember that there is usually 10-15 kbps of overhead communication on your connection at any given time. This overhead may prevent you from using your full bandwidth to listen to a stream. If you are sure that your Internet connection is not the cause of your choppy playback, you may try increasing UltraPlayer's setting for "Streaming pre-buffer size". Increasing the size of the pre-buffer gives UltraPlayer more time to receive data from streams that may be choppy. This pre-buffer works much the same as the buffer on a portable CD Player used to avoid skips caused by bumping the player. To increase this setting:
